Our Mission Statement
Families for Effective Autism Treatment ? North Texas (FEAT-NT) is a non-profit organization of parents and concerned professionals dedicated to providing Education, Advocacy, and Support for children with autism and their families.
Parents must be objective and critical when considering autism treatments and claims made on treatment outcomes. We are dedicated to educating, empowering and supporting parents in this critical endeavor. We recognize the unique ways autism affects individual children and similarly support individualized treatment programs that:
Uphold safety and respect for the child with autism;
Provide scientific evidence supporting treatment outcomes;
Provide evidence characterized by demonstration, objectivity, direct measurement, comparability with alternative treatments, scientifically controlled research, and clinical and/or educational significance.
FEAT-NT specifically advocates for families pursuing Intensive Behavioral Intervention (IBI) based on the methods and principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis. To date, IBI is the most successfully, scientifically validated treatment methodology providing significant improvement and possible restoration of intellectual and educational functioning in children with autism. FEAT-NT may support other scientifically validated methodologies if and when they become available.
Due to many factors, most children with autism in North Texas do not receive effective treatment at the required intensity. Therefore FEAT-NT is working to see that all families facing autism get the information and support they need. We hold open-to-all meetings featuring the most respected IBI professionals in the metroplex. We publish an informative newsletter. We provide new parent information packages and workshops, a website, and seminars to professionals in medicine and education.
